NOT many 11-year-olds have a bio page on International Movie Database or have sung opera with Hollywood star Russell Crowe.
Active Performance Studio student, Dylan Georgiades has.
The young actor has just been in Turkey working on Crowe’s directorial debut, The Water Diviner. He was picked from a nationwide talent search to play the role of a young Turkish boy, Orhan.
He was flown to Sydney for four weeks of filming, then jetted off to Istanbul for another two weeks.
“It was really exciting when I got the call, I was really shocked,” Dylan said.
The Bentleigh boy learned how to speak with a Turkish accent as well as a few Turkish phrases.
Dylan said on set, Crowe showed him the ropes.
“He mentored me and I learned so much,” Dylan said. “We worked really hard, but he always made it fun.
“He was really relaxed and made jokes and we were singing quite a bit.
“We would both sing opera. I’m not really a big fan of opera, but he’d start singing and I’d sing along with him and it was kind of like a little sing-off.”
The movie follows an Australian man who travels to Turkey after the Battle of Gallipoli to try and find his three missing sons. It is due for release this year.
Since the movie, Dylan has kept in touch with Olga Kurylenko – Bond girl Camille in Quantum of Solace – with whom he got on well.
He has also returned to school life, saying that he “really missed my friends”.
